We’ve put together this list of some of our favorite ways to drink RoughStock Montana Whiskeys. The list has been sorted by whiskey for your convenience, but we are never against experimentation between styles!

Pure Malt Recipes

 

RoughStock Sour

3 oz RoughStock Pure Malt Montana Whiskey
3/4 oz roasted barley syrup (recipe below)
1/2 oz orange and vanilla rooibos syrup (recipes below)
1 oz citrus (2 parts lime 1 part lemon .5 part orange)
1 dash Angostura orange bitters
put everything in a shaker with ice, shake, and strain into your favorite glass.
Roasted Barley Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 1/2 oz roasted barley (available from a good tea shop)
bring to a boil, let cool, strain barley from syrup.
Rooibos Syrup
2 cup sugar
2 cup water
1/2 oz vanilla rooibos (available from a good tea shop)
1/2 oz orange rooibos (available from a good tea shop)
bring to boil, let cool a little, strain rooibos from syrup

Montana Manhattan
3oz RoughStock Montana Whiskey
1 oz Port wine
1/2 oz Campari

Stir (don’t shake) all ingredients in a tall glass with ice for about 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.


Montana Winter Welcome
2 oz RoughStock Pure Malt Montana Whiskey
1 fresh lemon wedge
1 tsp honey
2 cloves
1 cinnamon stick

Add all ingredients to a coffee mug and top with hot water. Let steep for 5 minutes. Stir and enjoy.


Montana Whiskey Ditch
3 oz RoughStock Pure Malt Montana Whiskey
1 oz tap water
1 ice cube

Sip and enjoy!


Montana Liquid Therapy (Penicillin Cocktail)
Ingredients
2.5 ounces RoughStock Pure Malt Montana Whiskey
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce honey syrup*
3 slices fresh ginger
1/4 ounce Islay or Highland single malt scotch (such as Laphroaig or Springbank) depending on your comfort level of peat smoke.
Honey syrup
Combine equal parts honey and hot water and stir until well mixed. Let cool before using, and keep refrigerated.

Using a wooden muddler or mixing spoon, muddle the fresh ginger in the bottom of a cocktail shaker until it is well mashed. Add the Montana Whiskey, lemon juice, and honey syrup, and shake well with ice. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and pour the Islay/Highland scotch over the back of a bar spoon so that it floats atop the drink. Garnish with a piece of candied ginger.


RoughStock Ginger
1.5 oz Roughstock Pure Malt Whiskey

2 oz Soda

1 oz Ginger Beer

Build in Bucket Glass and Garnish with Lime wedge


Big Buck Manhattan(The drink to warm you up after hunting)

2 oz Roughstock Pure Malt Whiskey
1/2 oz Roughstock Straight Rye
1/2 oz Benedictine

2 Dashes Angostura Bitters


Stir with Ice or Serve up in Martini Glass


Psych Ward (Halloween Cocktail)

2 oz Roughstock Pure Malt Whiskey
3/4 oz Orange Juice
1/2 oz Honey
1/4 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/4 oz Grenadine


Shake and Strain over Ice and Garnish with Orange Slice and Cherry


Manhattan Flash

1.5 oz Roughstock Pure Malt Whiskey
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
1/4 oz Cointreau

Splash Pineapple Juice

2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

1 Coin (Slice) Fresh Ginger


Shake and Strain over ice in Highball Glass and top with ¼ oz Meyer’s Rum
Garnish with Cherry


Walk of Shame(Made for Roughstock/ Dirty Shame event at the Gateway Inn)

1 oz Roughstock Pure Malt Whiskey
1/2 oz Simple Syrup

3 oz Orange Juice or Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice


Shake and Strain into Bucket Glass and top with a splash of Grenadine


Montana Coffee 1.5 oz RoughStock Pure Malt Whiskey

3 oz Coffee

1 oz Real Whipped Cream


Build in Hot coffee mug with whipped cream floating on top. 
To make whipped cream use 3 Tbsp. of Confectioners (Powdered) Sugar and 2 oz Heaving whipping cream
shaken until thick enough to still pour.


The Turkey Tourist
1.5ounces RoughStock Pure Malt Whiskey
1/2ounce Creme de Cassis
1/2 ounce Dry Vermouth
Splash Fresh Lemon Juice.

Shake and strain into Martini Glass. Garnish with Lemon slice


Montana Whiskey Press
3 ounces RoughStock Pure Malt Montana Whiskey
2 ounces club soda
2 ounces 7-UP

Combine all ingredients in a rocks glass filled with ice. Sip and enjoy. A great summer refresher!

Spring Wheat Recipes

 

RoughStock Whiskey Sour
2 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey
Fresh Lemon Juice
Basil
Splash Simple Syrup
Cherry Garnish

In an Old Fashion glass muddle Whiskey, Lemon Juice, Basil, and a splash of Simple Syrup. Add ice and garnish with 
cherry.


Rough Buck
2 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey
Fresh Lemon Squeeze
Cock N’ Bull Ginger Beer
Classic Copper Mug

Add ice to the classic Copper Mug, add Whiskey, Ginger Beer and squeeze of Fresh Lemon. Stir and Enjoy!


Montana Whiskey Press
3 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

2 oz club soda
2 oz 7-UP

Combine all ingredients in a bucket glass filled with ice. Sip and enjoy. A great summer refresher!


Christmas Cheer
1 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey
3 oz Eggnog

Shake and Strain over ice in Bucket Glass. A true Christmas favorite!


The Corker (St. Patricks Day Cocktail)

1.5 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey
1/2 oz Galliano
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
1/4 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

Shake and Strain all ingredients over ice in Bucket Glass




Raging Bull
2 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

1 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

1 oz Simple Syrup

Splash of Pineapple Juice

2 Slices Fresh Jalapeno



Muddle Jalapeno and the Simple Syrup, add all other ingredients with ice. Shake and strain into Bucket


Montana Lemonade (Better than Lynchburg Lemonade)

1.5 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

3/4 oz Triple Sec

3/4 oz Simple Syrup

1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice


Shake and Strain in Highball Glass and garnish with Lemon Wedge


Box Car Sally ( The Gallatin Gateway Inn’s 85th Anniversary Drink)

1 1/2 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

1 oz Honey

1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

1/2 oz Cointreau


Shake and Strain over Ice and Garnish with Lemon wedge




Montana Slammer (Better than an Alabama Slammer)

1 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

1 oz Amaretto

1 oz Slow Gin

1 oz Orange Juice

1 oz Pineapple Juice


Shake and Strain in Highball Glass and Garnish with Orange Slice




Donkey Punch (After a few of these you will feel like the Urban Dictionary definition)

1.5 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

2 Slices Fresh Cucumber

1 Slice Fresh Jalapeno


Muddle Cucumber, Jalapeno and Lime Juice 
Add Roughstock Spring Wheat Whiskey, and Shake and Strain over Ice in Pint Glass and top with Ginger Beer


Dr. RoughStock

1.5 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey

1/2 oz Stoli Vanilla
1/4 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

2 oz Ginger Ale

Build in Bucket Glass 


RoughStock Tea (Similar to a Long Island Iced Tea)
1.5oz RoughStock Spring Wheat Whiskey
1 oz Simple Syrup
1/4 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/4 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

Dash of Triple Sec

Build in Rocks Glass


Whiskey Cider Smash
2 oz RoughStock Spring Wheat
Splash of Fresh Lemon Juice
4 oz Chilled Sparkling Apple Cider

Build in Collins Glass. Garnish with Thin Red-Apple Slice

Straight Rye Recipes

 

Gallatin Lemonade
1.5 oz RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey
Splash of Sweet & Sour
7-up or Sprite
1/2 oz Triple Sec

Serve on the rocks and enjoy this refreshing summer cocktail!


Sazarac
3 oz RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey
Lucid Absinthe
Sugar Cube
Peychaud’s Bitters
Lemon Twist garnish

Chill an Old Fashioned Glass by filling it with ice and letting it sit while preparing the rest of the drink. In a separate mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube and Peychaud bitters together. Add the RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey and ice to the bitters mixture and stir.

Discard the ice in the chilled glass and rinse it with absinthe (or substitute) by pouring a small amount into the glass, swirling it around and discarding the liquid. Strain the whiskey, sugar & bitters mixture from the mixing glass into the old fashioned glass. Garnish with a lemon twist. Traditionalists will say that the lemon twist should be squeezed over the drink to release its essences but that the twist should not be dropped into the glass itself.


Gettin’ Old Fashioned
2 oz RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 sugar Cube
Club Soda

Place sugar cube in an old fashioned glass, Wet it down with 2 or 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and Grand Marnier. Muddle together and swirl the glass so that mixture lines the glass. Add ice, pour in the Straight Rye Whiskey and add a splash of Club Soda. Stir and serve. A great historical cocktail!!


Bloody Ginger

1.5 oz RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey

3 oz Ginger Ale

1 oz Blood Orange Juice



Build in Bucket over ice. Not for the faint at heart!!


Montana Boxcar (A take on the Side Car)

1 oz RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey

1 oz Grand Marnier
1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

Build in Rocks Glass – Garnish with Cherry 


DARK & STORMY
2 oz of apple & cinnamon infused RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey

Fresh ginger slices

Cock n Bull Ginger beer

Sprig of mint



Infuse 1 bottle of RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey with 4 cinnamon sticks and ½ cup of dried apple slices for 48 hours (longer for more intense flavor).  Strain apples/cinnamon and keep remainder in the refrigerator.



In a rocks glass muddle 2 thin slices of fresh ginger.
 Fill glass with ice to the top.
 Add 2 oz of infused RoughStock Straight Rye Whiskey
Top with ginger beer.
 Gently stir and add a sprig of mint to the drink for added flavor

Sweet Corn Recipes

 

Montana MoonSwine Mary

Bacon Infused RoughStock Corn Whiskey
1 bottle of RoughStock Corn Whiskey
1 package of smoked bacon

Fry up 4-12 pieces of bacon and pour the (slightly cooled) bacon fat in to a glass container and add 1 bottle of corn whiskey. Let it sit to taste, usually a matter of hours but up to 48 is recommended. Put it in the freezer until the bacon fat congeals and ladle the fat off the top. Strain (if necessary).

Mary Mix
In a large glass jar (a gallon size is best) mix together:

2 qts tomato juice or V8 (we recommend Spicy V8)
1 cup Au jus or beef stock
1 tbs lemon Juice
1 heaping tbs Horseraddish
1/2 tbs montreal steak seasoning
1/2 tbs celery salt
1/2 tbs black pepper

Shake to mix.

the MoonSwine Mary
Mix together
2 oz of corn whiskey
6 oz of Mary Mix
1/4 oz Maple Syrup or Brown Sugar Simple Syrup (if you like it sweet)

Garnish with pickled vegies, celery and bacon!!  Enjoy!!


Montana Sidecar
1.5 oz RoughStock Sweet Corn Whiskey
1/2 oz Cointreau
Splash of Sweet & Sour
Squeeze of Lemon

Shake over ice, strain, and serve in a sugar-rimmed Martini glass


Manhattan Manhattan
2 oz maple bacon infused RoughStock Sweet Corn Whiskey (see above for infusion instructions)
1 oz Benedictine
2 dashes Orange Bitters
Cherry Garnish

Chill a Martini glass by placing ice in it and letting it sit while mixing ingredients in a separate mixing glass. Mix ingredients over ice, shake and strain into pre-chilled Martini glass. Garnish with Cherry. Sip and enjoy!
